No matter what industry or position you are interviewing for, there are several questions that are standard throughout all interviews. Knowing what they are and how to properly answer these questions are essential before you go to your next interview.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Whether you are interviewing for a position within a factory or sales in a Fortune 500 company, all employers desire to know what you believe are your strengths and weaknesses. The way that you answer this question is critical.
When you are questioned about your strength, focus on the best part of your personality and what has been noticed in the past by previous employers. For example, if you have been praised for having a keen eye and attention to detail, highlight that strength in your next interview.
Provide an honest answer to your weakness. Focus on something that you are aware of as weaker, and how you plan to restructure that weakness into a strength moving forward. This answer will ensure potential employers that you can take responsibility for your actions as well as motivation for restructuring that weakness.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Potential employers often ask this question to not only identify your career goals, but to evaluate how you answer the question. Your confidence and tone when describing that Director position you are seeking in five years is just as critical as saying the words. Leave no room for doubt or question when you vocalize your five-year plan.
What skills make you the right candidate for the job?
It does not matter if you are interviewing for the entry-level administrative position or for the next potential CEO of a company, all jobs have standard skills that are required. Begin this question with ensuring potential employers that you meet both educational requirements and the experience necessary for the position. From there, elaborate on the unique skills that will elevate you as a candidate from others. Some examples of these unique skills could be communication, adaptability, and conflict resolution among others.
